Hydro Colon Therapy: The life-changer you’ve never heard about

Who wants to talk about poop?

Excuse me?!

Yes, poop. The stuff that that children’s book pointed out to some of us when we were younger. Everyone poops and it’s a great (one of the best) indicator(s) for your overall health.

You didn’t know? No problem, because I am here to introduce you to the best way I’ve found to monitor this situation. It’s called Hydro Colon Therapy. It’s changed my life in more ways than one and it’s time to learn how it can change your life too!

First, I want to tell you a little about my backstory on the way to discovering Hydro Colon Therapy.

I was lost. I was about to give up on myself. I had lost my love for food and the motivation to do just about anything while being overloaded with emotions from all directions. I was quick to cry at a moment’s notice. I was into my second year of struggling with being bloated, having digestive problems and always being constipated (and not being able to poop). Looking back, my health was affecting me in ways I wasn’t physically aware of. I had been on medication seven different times into that second year because the meds had been temporarily masking my symptoms. The meds didn’t work and I was eventually diagnosed with SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), which has an impact on your emotions as well. I was at the point where I almost got talked into a major surgery to remove a parts of my intestine. I was 23 years old. Was this really the answer?

One day, everything changed when my friend Jessica walked into work saying how she got Lyme disease and was going to do everything in her power not to let this affect her life. She went vegan, gluten free, stopped drinking, practiced hot yoga, and discovered Mary Ann (Hydro Colon Therapy Specialist). I said if this girl is willing to do all of this to get her health back so she can live the life that she was supposed to live, I can do the same. For two years, I did just that. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't perfect but I followed this lifestyle about 90% of the time for two years. The first few months were the hardest part. I wasn't seeing a difference at first and even broke out all over my face after that first month of going to Mary Ann for my colon cleanses. I found out that that’s totally normal and it's your body detoxing out your pores.

Mary Ann knows so much about the gut, she blows my mind every time with her knowledge. You know the saying, you learn something new every day? I learn ten new things every time I go see her for a colonic. The first time I went I was a little nervous but willing to try anything. At that point I had already been poked at enough by needles that this should be nothing.

The first time going to her you’re there for about three hours. She wants to know what is going on in your life, why you’re there, health history as a child and if you're willing to make a change. Conversations can go on for hours with that beautiful woman. When you're ready you change into a classic green gown, re-enter the room and step over to the slant board to lay back. She coats your stomach with a little oil and gives it a little massage. The massage helps her see where you're holding your bloat or constipation. The first time I was on the table she asked me if I had ever been pregnant before. I could have cried, but she knew my stomach and knew my recent health history. I tore my Diastasis Recti which is your six pack muscles that meet at the midline of your stomach. This happens to pregnant women or from extreme bloating. Can you believe that I tore my stomach muscles from bloat?!

The next step is to the massage table, and finally to the hydro colon therapy machine. It's old school and vintage. I love it! You lay on your back and she lets you know that she is about to put a small tube in your butt. It's nothing to be scared of; it's not even big. When it’s in, she slowly puts warm water into you.You don’t really feel the tube in but at one point you let her know you feel the water. She then drains the water out. When I feel it, I feel pressure like I have to poop. It's really cool to watch it happen. The machine has a clear glass tube so Mary Ann can see what is exactly going on with your poop. I love when she stops the machine so you can really see what's going. Sometimes she asks me if I had sushi last night? “Madeline, chew your food slower,” Mary Ann says. “I shouldn't be able to see chunks of steak, Madeline!”

I'm so guilty of not chewing my food, which ends up causing so many problems in the gut. Think about it, if it takes you that long to chew a piece steak, how long do you think it will take your stomach to break it down; your stomach doesn't have teeth.
